Project Description
The Victorian School Building Authority is a division of the Department of Education and Training established in 2016 to oversee the design and construction of new schools and early childhood centres, as well as the modernisation and upgrading of existing ones.
Cooke & Dowsett were involved in the construction of 6 new schools in growth areas in Victoria.
Hydraulic scope of works:
- Potable Water supply, rain and recycled water systems
- Sanitary plumbing and drainage
- Trade waste drainage treatment
- Civil stormwater including rainwater harvesting system for WC flushing and irrigation
- Fire service ring mains
- Natural Gas throughout to service heating and high efficiency hot water services
Overcoming Challenges
- Geographical locations of the schools across Melbourne’s growth areas
- Staged building handovers
- Significant changes in scope during the construction
- Tough in-ground conditions with rock throughout all sites
- Compressed construction programming

- Achieving highly efficient hydraulic services through the design and installation of rainwater reuse systems and innovative fixtures and fittings
